catabolism
n. 异化作用,分解代谢

异化作用,分解代谢

catabolism
n 1: breakdown in living organisms of more complex substances
into simpler ones together with release of energy [synonym:
{catabolism}, {katabolism}, {dissimilation}, {destructive
metabolism}] [ant: {anabolism}, {constructive metabolism}]

Metabolism \Me*tab"o*lism\, n. (Physiol.)
1. The act or process, by which living tissues or cells take
up and convert into their own proper substance the
nutritive material brought to them by the blood, or by
which they transform their cell protoplasm into simpler
substances, which are fitted either for excretion or for
some special purpose, as in the manufacture of the
digestive enzymes. Hence, metabolism may be either
constructive ({anabolism}), or destructive ({catabolism}).
[1913 Webster]

2. (Biol.) The series of chemical changes which take place in
an organism, by means of which food is manufactured and
utilized and waste materials are eliminated.
[Webster 1913 Suppl.]

Disassimilation \Dis`as*sim`i*la"tion\, n. (Physics)
The decomposition of complex substances, within the organism,
into simpler ones suitable only for excretion, with evolution
of energy, -- a normal nutritional process the reverse of
assimilation; downward metabolism; -- now more commonly
called {catabolism}.
[1913 Webster PJC]

The breaking down of already existing chemical
compounds into simpler ones, sometimes called
disassimilation. --Martin.
[1913 Webster]

catabolism \catabolism\ n.
the breakdown of more complex substances into simpler ones
with release of energy, in living organisms; destructive or
downward metabolism; -- a form of metabolism, opposed to
{anabolism}. See also {Disassimilation}. [Formerly spelled
{katabolism}.]

Syn: katabolism, dissimilation, destructive metabolism.

  • Catabolism - Wikipedia
Catabolism is the breaking-down aspect of metabolism, whereas anabolism is the building-up aspect Cells use the monomers released from breaking down polymers to either construct new polymer molecules or degrade the monomers further to simple waste products, releasing energy
  • Anabolism and Catabolism - Definitions and Differences
Metabolism consists of two sets of biochemical pathways called anabolism and catabolism Anabolism builds complex molecules from simpler ones, while catabolism breaks larger molecules into smaller ones
  • Catabolism vs. Anabolism: What’s the Difference?
Catabolism occurs when you’re digesting food For example, it’s the process that dissolves a piece of bread into simple nutrients your body can use, like glucose (blood sugar)
  • Catabolism | Definition Metabolism | Britannica
Catabolism, the sequences of enzyme-catalyzed reactions by which relatively large molecules in living cells are broken down, or degraded Energy is released in three phases, the last of which is the tricarboxylic acid (or Krebs) cycle Learn more about the reactions and products of catabolism
  • Catabolism Definition and Examples - Biology Online Dictionary
Catabolism is the branch of the metabolic process that breaks down complex, big molecules into smaller ones, yielding energy It is the destructive branch of the metabolism that results in the release of energy
  • CATABOLISM Definition Meaning - Merriam-Webster
The meaning of CATABOLISM is degradative metabolism involving the release of energy and resulting in the breakdown of complex materials (such as proteins or lipids) within the organism
  • Introduction to metabolism: Anabolism and catabolism
Anabolism is the process of building up larger, more complex molecules from smaller ones This process requires energy Catabolism is the process of breaking down larger molecules into smaller ones This process releases energy that can be used by the organism
  • What is Catabolism? - BYJUS
Catabolism is the breakdown of complex substances to their constituent parts (glucose, amino acids and fatty acids) which form substrates for metabolic pathways
  • What Are Catabolic Pathways and How Do They Fuel Life?
Catabolic pathways are a series of biochemical reactions that break down larger, complex molecules into smaller, simpler ones This degradation process is accompanied by a release of energy
  • Catabolism - Definition, Types, Example, Stages, Causes More
Catabolism refers to the set of metabolic pathways that break down complex molecules into simpler ones, releasing energy and providing building blocks for anabolic processes
