macrophages    音标拼音: [m'ækrof,edʒɪz]
phagocyte \phag"o*cyte\ (f[a^]g"[-o]*s[imac]t), n. [Gr. fagei^n
to eat ky`tos a hollow vessel.] (Physiol.)
A leucocyte which plays a part in immunity and retrogressive
processes by taking up (eating), in the form of fine
granules, foreign objects such as bacteria or cellular parts
to be removed. There are two principle subtypes, (1)
{microphages}, polymorphonuclear lymphocytes which
principally digest bacteria; and (2) {macrophages},
mononucleated cells which primarily scavenge dead tissue and
degenerate cells. --Stedman.
[1913 Webster PJC]

  • Macrophage - Wikipedia
Macrophages are widely thought of as highly plastic and fluid cells, with a fluctuating phenotype Human macrophages are about 21 micrometres (0 00083 in) in diameter [8] and are produced by the differentiation of monocytes in tissues
  • Macrophages: Types, Function Diseases - Cleveland Clinic
Macrophages are immune cells that find and destroy germs, tumor cells and other things that could harm you They also work as your body’s cleanup crew, help your organs work properly and help maintain homeostasis
  • Macrophage | Definition, Biology, Function | Britannica
macrophage, type of white blood cell that helps eliminate foreign substances by engulfing foreign materials and initiating an immune response Macrophages are constituents of the reticuloendothelial system (or mononuclear phagocyte system) and occur in almost all tissues of the body
  • Tissue macrophages: origin, heterogenity, biological functions . . .
Macrophages are immune cells belonging to the mononuclear phagocyte system They play crucial roles in immune defense, surveillance, and homeostasis
  • Macrophages | British Society for Immunology
Macrophages are specialised cells involved in the detection, phagocytosis and destruction of bacteria and other harmful organisms In addition, they can also present antigens to T cells and initiate inflammation by releasing molecules (known as cytokines) that activate other cells
  • Macrophage: Definition, Function, Causes of High and Low Count
Macrophages are large, irregularly shaped white blood cells that are characterized by their ability to engulf and digest foreign particles Their morphology is often described as “amoeboid,” meaning they have a flexible, constantly changing shape that allows them to move and engulf particles
  • Macrophages in health and disease: Cell - Cell Press
Their fundamental attributes enable them to “clean” their surroundings by phagocytosing cellular material and regulating tissue repair and maintenance Macrophages are, therefore, key tissue sentinel cells that are present across various organs throughout the body (Wynn et al , 2013)
