    I suppose the most optimal notation for speed-solving depends on the difficulty of the puzzle NYT’s hard puzzles have a difficulty rating of around 2 6 - 3 6 on SE, and partial notation can sometimes be faster there However, for anything above that (I’d say 4 0+), full-notation becomes a necessity

    Therefore, I believe the medium regularly requires these techniques to keep up the difficulty but gives more digits to bring it into "medium", but the way the hard is laid out allows for logic only solves even with less given digits, as well as what I call the "tunnel" - where they put 3 givens into a 9 cell group with a gap in the middle, which points to those three digits in the empty row or
