  • Why are we able to multiply radicals but not add them?
Exponentiation is sort of the same thing as multiplication, since for positive integer exponents it's just the process of multiplying a number by itself So it would make sense that exponentiation would work like that, but not addition Also try testing radicals with square numbers: √9 * √4 = √(9*4) = √36 = 6 = 3*2
  • Multiplying radicals : r LearnUselessTalents - Reddit
Coefficients get multiplied, then radicals get multiplied, then you just smash em together To simplify, use root(ab) = root(a) * root(b) So if you have root12, you can split it into root3 * root4, and 4 is a square, so you can make the root4 into 2
  • Radicals; Why? : r math - Reddit
Radicals are just a fundamentally important type of number They show up every single place you can think of numbers in real life: Take lengths in geometry If you draw a right triangle with short side lengths both 1 inch long, then its long side will be 2 1 2 inches long (this is the Pythagorean theorem, a 2 + b 2 = c 2
  • [University Math] Multiplying Radicals, am I going crazy?
I'm trying to understand one part of multiplying radicals For example, if I have the problem (√ ̅5 + 7)(√ ̅5 - 7) would the answer be -44 like I have…

If it helps, OP, the rule u tangoo258 uses can be proven remembered by multiplying out simpler exponents: 2 4 • 2 2 = (2•2•2•2) • (2•2) = 2 6, and conveniently, 4+2 = 6 It's easier to conceptualize and remember the rule with integer exponents rather than fraction exponents

  • [High School Math] Simplifying Radicals : r HomeworkHelp - Reddit
I can simplify radicals alright by multiplying the first fraction by sqrt(2) sqrt(2) and the second fraction by sqrt(3) sqrt(3) to get a final answer of 2sqrt(2)+(2sqrt(3)) 3, but that is not one of the solutions I'm not allowed a calculator, but punching the answer G into a calculator along with my simplified answer shows they are both
